It's April! Let's Write!

Greetings, writers!

From 12:00am April 1st to 11:59pm April 30th, your challenge is to write a novel (or a novella, or a really long short story, or a bunch of not-so-long short stories, or maybe a collection of poems or essays or love letters or whatever). We're suggesting a word count goal of 15,000 words for the month (that's just 500 words a day!), but you can talk with us (Ms. Lesak and Mr. Rampson) to find a goal that'll work for you (lower OR higher).

You'll be writing your magnum opus (/mag·num o·pus/ noun A large and important work of art, music, or literature, especially one regarded as the most important work of an artist or writer) by hand, in Word, or on Google Docs, whatever works best for you (although, if you write by hand, you'll eventually have to type it all up to confirm the word count...). We suggest Google Docs because then you always have access to your story wherever you are when you have the inspiration and/or the time to write.

By signing into the official Camp NaNoWriMo website, you'll be able to access our private cabin, a message board for you to find inspiration, chat with the other writers, and, of course, ask questions. Mr. Rampson and Ms. Lesak will post occasional discussion topics and dares—we encourage you to post your own!

Most of your writing will be done on your own time—night, weekends, whenever—and you can make a big push over April break or space it out evenly over the month, whatever works for you. Just know that 500 words a day isn't that much, about a page and a half, so trying to keep up with a little bit everyday may keep you from getting overly stressed.

Now you have all the info! Check your writing-canteen, writing-compass, and buckle in for a 30-day camping trip in a world of your own creation! See you in the cabin!
